Thursday, November 4th

at
BusBoys & Poets, 5th & K Sts. NW,
Washington DC,  20001/USA

This timely topic takes place right after the historic Primary 2010 Elections. Social Media has firmly taken its place in the landscape Globally. It’s impact in the 21st century is evident. Our outstanding guest speakers for this event will rivet you to your seats. They are Dr. Maurice Henderson and Ryme Katkhouda. Dr. Henderson is a cutting edge, controversial, media personality. Professor Henderson is an award winning, critically acclaimed and best selling writer. He states “There are different mediums that are controlling our culture today. Social media will always extend past the electronic venue. Anything that ‘controls’ our senses creates to socialize. Examples are broadcasting, oral history and visual history to name a few.”Our second guest speaker, “Ryme Katkhouda”, the founder of Peoples MEDIA Center, is the host of the weekly radio show Voices With Vision, a weekly news magazine airing on WPFW.org, 89.3FM in DC Tuesdays at 11am. Ms. Katkhouda has taught media to people all over the USA, including students at New York’s School of Visual Arts, news directors from Portland to Palestine and some 500 journalists across the world. Ms. Katkhouda has been a Senior Producer & News Editor at Pacifica Radio Network and WPFW in Washington, D.C. She was a national correspondent with Free Speech Radio News and works with Atlantic TV Network, INNWorldReport.net/inn and Free Speech TV as a producer and a management consultant.

Katkhouda states that “Social media began when people started to organize to effect social change. Electronic social media started in 1999 when activists organized to shut down Seattle Washington and bankrupt the World Trade Organization. The activists created in order to tell their own story.”
